District 23 funds stress management program for students

Jun 22, 2022

COVID-19 is posing a multiple threat to our children. While the physical virus may affect some children, the mental health repercussions likely affect them the most. The Psychology Foundation of Canada has been offering programs that nurture resilience in children and youth. In 2020, a $4,000 grant from District 23 North York is helping the foundation to promote stress management for students.

The funding will help to give stress management program guides to 115 educators in North York, from the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

“Our members recognize the need to support prevention and early intervention strategies. The guides offer ways to create an emotionally healthy environment in the school,” says Gwen Scriven, president, District 23 North York. “By promoting self-regulation and effective stress management skills, educators can help children to cope and become even more engaged in their classrooms.”
